Clans & Large-Scale Ops

Planned. Clan servers are in development and nothing on this page has shipped yet. There is no release date.

The community and the op, in one app.

Your fleet chats on Discord and fights on TeamSpeak, because one account there gets one voice channel. A clan server is a planned paid tier for a Voidcom server that puts the squad net and the command net in the same app, with a push-to-talk key for each.

Why the op runs on a second tool

On Discord an account sits in one voice channel per server. A fleet commander who has to reach the wing commanders while every wing talks among itself cannot do that there, and the request for cross-channel voice has been open on Discord's feedback board since 2019. So the community stays on Discord and the operation moves to TeamSpeak or Mumble, whose whisper lists and linked channels do the job. EVE alliances were among the last groups still on Mumble and TeamSpeak for that reason, and some groups pay a relay bot to fake it inside Discord instead.

  • Discord: one voice channel per server per account
  • Cross-channel voice requested on Discord's feedback board since 2019, still open
  • TeamSpeak whisper lists and Mumble channel links carry the command net today, so the op lives there

The statements above are cited on the sources page.

What a clan server does

A member of a clan server is connected to more than one voice channel of that server at once. The squad net is where you talk freely. On the command net only the shotcaller and the group leads may transmit, and the server enforces that per net, so a member without the permission is not heard there whatever their client does. Each net has its own push-to-talk key, its own volume and its own ear, and while you hold a key the app shows which nets it transmits into.

  • Squad net and command net at the same time, a push-to-talk key per net
  • Who may transmit in a net is a server-side permission, checked per net
  • Per-net volume and left or right ear, so the nets stay apart
  • Each net end-to-end encrypted, on Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android; phones get an on-screen hold-to-talk button per net

Nets with more than 99 members use the Stage tier, which is server-mediated rather than end-to-end encrypted, the same rule as for voice rooms today.

Templates for the layouts you already run

A template creates the channels, the roles and the talk permissions in one step. A squad lead who joins their squad lands in the command net as well; nobody configures anything on the client. Counts and role names are parameters, and every net stays an ordinary channel you can rename, reorder or delete between ops.

  • EVE Online

    Fleet

A fleet net where everyone listens and the fleet commander transmits, a command net for the commander and the wing commanders, logi and scouts nets, and a net per wing.

  • PlanetSide 2

    Platoon

A platoon net for the platoon lead and the squad leads, four squad nets, and an outfit net.

  • Arma 3 units

    Milsim

Company, platoon and squad nets by echelon, with an admin or logistics net split off when the command net gets busy.

  • WoW, FFXIV

    Raid

A raid net where the raid lead and the officers transmit and everyone listens, an officer net, and optional healer and tank nets.

Planned as a paid tier per server

The server pays for the clan tier; members stay free and need no subscription of their own. The pricing page has the current proposal, which is not final. What the tier covers is still being decided: the proposal is that sitting in several nets at once is paid, while talk permissions per net and the templates work on every server. Progress is on the roadmap.
