Voidcom is launching its beta soon. Things are moving fast, and we want to be clear about what’s done, what’s in progress, and what’s coming next.

What’s already shipped

We’ve built the core communication experience from scratch:

  • Voice chat with 4 quality presets, from competitive esports (5ms frames) to studio-quality music
  • Real-time messaging with edit, delete, replies, reactions, @mentions, typing indicators, markdown, and full-text search
  • Servers and channels with invites, server discovery, member management, and instant updates
  • Roles and permissions with a customizable hierarchy, so you control who can do what in your server
  • Moderation tools including kick, ban, mute, ban lists with reasons, and role hierarchy enforcement
  • Friends and direct messages with friend requests, online status, and private voice calls
  • Video and screen sharing (alpha): the hardware-accelerated encoding pipeline is built, and full delivery is being finalized
  • E2E encryption for direct messages and voice calls; server channels use transport encryption
  • Invite system with shareable codes, usage limits, and expiry
  • Server discovery so you can find and join public servers
  • Desktop notifications with per-server and per-channel mute, plus Do Not Disturb
  • Security with spam prevention, ban evasion protection, and encrypted connections
  • Windows installer with one-click setup and automatic updates

That’s a lot of ground covered. There’s more to do.

What we’re working on now

Profile pictures. Your avatar everywhere: in chat, in voice channels, and in your friends list, with persistent storage and display.

Post-quantum cryptography. Upgrading all key exchange to hybrid X25519 + ML-KEM-768 for protection against future quantum threats, compliant with BSI TR-02102-1.

What’s coming next

Linux client. A native Linux desktop app with the same features as Windows.

Android client. Your servers on your phone, voice and messaging included.

Web client. Voidcom in your browser, no install needed.

Call history. Your past voice calls with timestamps and participants.

Per-channel permissions. Override role permissions on individual channels.

Custom emoji. Upload and manage custom emoji for your server.

Data export and account deletion. Full GDPR data rights.

More server locations. Right now we run in a single region. We want more locations so you connect to the closest one and get lower latency.

Bot and app SDK. We want servers to be extensible: bots, integrations, maybe custom commands. This is still early, but it’s on our radar.

Always-on reliability. We’re scaling our infrastructure so Voidcom stays fast and stable as more people join.

How you can help

The best thing you can do during beta is use it and tell us what breaks. Every bug report, feature request, and piece of feedback helps.

Apply for the beta and be the first to try it. The full roadmap tracks progress in detail.
